Background - Additionally, the venue would benefit basketball players from other schools in the Kandy District. TCKAA is coordinating the project with Trinity College Principal- Brigadier W.G. K. Ariyaratne. Mr. Anton Nelson (Basketball Lion) has also agreed to help us to unsure the smooth completion of this project. TCKAA has agreed in principal to refurbish the court. The following program has been planned to bring in a new era of Basketball in Trinity. The program is of two fold. 1. To refurbish the Basketball court with a better surface playing area , install a safe ring and post (the current post has safety issues), install floodlights to facilitate greater playing / practicing hours and an official scoring board to bring the court up to required standards and spectator convenience. (The contribution of the TCK-OBA-DC will be used for this purpose) 2. To Review Basketball in Trinity by bringing in systems to promote the game from the under 9 level (mini Basketball), whereby the fundamentals and the game techniques will be inculcated at U 9, 11 and U 13 levels, which will form the base of developing champion teams. (This program is more on the soft side of the project whereby programs to begin coaching at the junior levels and having house matches etc will commence. There would be a slight cost in re-doing the facilities in Junior school, and also a marginal cost in having an additional coach, which could either be funded by the excess (if any) of the contribution or a fresh funding program will be sort).
